Summary of the Week

  • As of Tuesday, Ms Mondor is back working full time.
  • Artist in Residence began. Students had a chance to see Rooney and Punyi perform. Room Three had Punyi come in three times to do literacy and drama activities. We will have one more session with Rooney and Punyi at the end of the month which parents are invited to attend if they wish. It will be on February 2. See next week’s mail folder for more information.
  • Class website is being regularly updated with Word Wall Words again.  Next week is a review week - Yellow Group Words and Green Group Words.
  • Reading centres started back up again. Most students should be getting new reading levels by the end of the month.
  • As Rooney and Punyi have been doing fractured fairy tales with the school, we will be writing our own substitution story based on a fairy tale.
  • Circles, triangles and rectangles are everywhere! We began our 2D shapes and 3D objects unit this week. Students will be exploring shapes and objects on their own as well as with graphs. Students watched a video called Learning to Use Graphs. You can watch this video at home by going to the Resources tab. Then scroll down to Discovery Education. At the Discovery Education site, put “learning to use graphs” in the search bar and the video should show up.
  • In social studies we reviewed what students have already learned about the Inuit and Nunavut. We watched a video of throat singing and discussed how it is important to be respectful of other cultures.
  • Mrs. Adam is just wrapping up magnetism and a new unit will begin shortly.
  • At Pollard Meadows, INTEGRITY is the character trait for January.
