Summary of the Week! (Oct. 21)

What a busy and exciting week! We did some catching up since Ms Mondor was away last week. Here are some highlights:

  • The most exciting was having three days of inline skating!
  • Almost as exciting as inline skating was extracting DNA from strawberries! Mrs. Adam’s daughter came in to teach science.
  • Mrs. Adam and the class continued to work with hot and cold temperatures. Try the Change It activity at home!
  • Students learned a new reading centre called Poetry Performance. Students have to choose a poem we have read as a class and practice reading it one their own or with a partner. Then they add actions. They perform this poem in front of the class.  Try Days of the Week at home.
  • Students had a social quiz and did AWESOME on it. We are ready to move on from studying Alberta, to learning about Nunavut.
  • Students have been applying their basic math strategies in games and doing math facts quizzes. Try Math Strategies Ideas for At Home
  • Ms Mondor brought back maple leaves from Michigan. Students did their final texture project using these leaves.
  • We talked about the importance of keeping organized.
  • The class newsletter was uploaded to SchoolZone. Make sure you log on and read it as a family!
  • Students learned a new dance – The Chicken Dance. Try it at home!

Summary of the Week (September 16)

This was our first FULL week at school. We welcomed two new students and so our class size is now 24. Some of the big ideas we learned about were:

  • odd and even numbers
  • short vowel sounds
  • answering comprehension question in reading
  • Edmonton is a big city and the river is called the North Saskatchewan River
  • when we do exercise we should include cardiovascular (heart pumping and lungs working hard), flexibility, coordination and strength building
  • how to log on to our school laptops
  • two new dances, including Old Brass Wagon (song this links to is not quite the same as the one we use in class).

On Friday, students enjoyed a rhythmic gymnastics demonstration. Log on to SchoolZone to see some pictures from the demonstration!
