Summary of the Week (September 30)

Some of the big ideas we learned about were:

  • The whole school participated in the Terry Fox School Run. We raised over $600. Thank you to those who donated.
  • Room Three tried out Bootcamp for the first time. Bootcamp is set up in the gym once a month.
  • Students continued to use puzzles and maps to learn more about Canada.
  • Students worked in reading centres for the first time. They did a good job of working quietly.
  • We started writing a book about respect! Look for it in the Pollard Meadows’ library soon.
  • We performed at the school assembly, at the last minute, when we heard no one was doing a performance. Students did a great job choral reading the poem “Showing Respect”.
  • We practised typing sentences on Spelling City with our word wall words and learned how to print what we typed.
  • In science, students are working with Mrs. Adam on hot and cold temperatures.
  • It was Apple Day on Thursday. Students each got an apple to encourage healthy snacks. Our apple corer broke but we were still able to  have fun peeling them.
  • Students logged into Mathletics for the first time. Usernames and passwords will go home next week after we’ve had one more practice in class.

Summary of the Week (September 23)

Some of the big ideas we learned about were:

  • We looked at Google Earth and found North America, Canada, Alberta, Edmonton and even Pollard Meadows! Students took home a their social booklet to write down their home addresses.
  • We learned a map is a drawing and we reviewed the cardinal directions – north, east, south, west. (Never Enter Shrek’s Washroom)

  • We started writing a book about respect!
  • We practised typing sentences on Spelling City with our word wall words.
  • We learned the word represent means show. “I can represent a number in different ways.” = “I can show a number in different ways.”
  • We practised using flashcards to review our basic facts for addition. Here is an online flashcard site for addition.
  • In circle time students shared that they like when their classmates are helpful, kind and polite.
  • In science, students are working with Mrs. Adam on hot and cold temperatures and using “hotter than” and “colder than”.
